September 27 & 28, 2008
It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the inaugural Whistler Spirit Run and Festival for the weekend of September 27 and 28, 2008 at Whistler Olympic Park!
This very special world-class location was carefully chosen and developed as one of the competition venues for the 2010 Olympic Games. We are very fortunate to have access to Whistler Olympic Park, its spectacular scenery, infrastructure, trails, and believe that this site will be a permanent “must participate” destination on the cross-country and trail running schedules of people around the globe.
The Callaghan Valley Sport and Cultural Society, a non-profit group, is the organizing committee behind this event and is inspired by the vision and passion for the sport by the late Frank Reynolds. Frank was a longtime coach and mentor for many people and had a profound effect on cross-country running and track and field at the national, provincial, and local levels. The purpose of the society is to promote, foster, encourage, and assist in the development of healthy lifestyles through sport and culture. We are committed to staging sporting and cultural events and our goal is to also provide assistance, financial and otherwise, to individual athletes, to sporting clubs, teams, and to organizations with purposes similar to those of the society.
Plans are coming together now for this exciting weekend, with competitive races scheduled for Saturday, September 27th and an open “all comers” event scheduled for Sunday, September 28th. Additional information will be posted soon to this website – including details about the various events, specially priced accommodations, and of course, registration.
Whistler Olympic Park is located in the spectacular Coast Mountains of British Columbia, just minutes south of Whistler, Canada’s premier, year-round destination.
Consistently ranked the number one resort in North America, Whistler features two spectacular mountains, epic skiing (in-season), four championship golf courses, more than 200 shops, 90 restaurants and bars, accommodations galore, hiking trails, spas, and arguably the best mountain bike park in the world. In short, Whistler has everything you could possibly need for the time of your life – and so much more.
We’d like you to make a full weekend at Whistler, take advantage of the location, the village and its splendor. Be part of history and join us for the first annual Whistler Spirit Run!
See you there!
